Three months after the controversial Ghana Post GPS system was launched by the government, patronage of the system that was touted as the solution to the decades of poor addressing system in the country, has been low.
Figures from Ghana post analysed by TV3 showed patronage has dipped after the initial impressive interest shown particularly in the GPS app in the first week.
As at Wednesday February 7, the Ghana Post GPS office had recorded 350, 000 downloads of the app on Google Play Store.
Out of this figure, 40, 800 have been registered with 3.9 million unique activities on the platform.
The app saw about 130, 000 downloads within the first week of the launch, which indicates that comparatively, about 220, 000 downloads were made within two months three weeks; something that shows a gradual decline in the number of downloads.
Chief Commercial Officer of Ghana Post, Jonathan Ansah, admitted patronage of the app has not been encouraging, but said they intend to rely heavily on institutions like the National Identification Authority, Bank of Ghana and the Electricity Company of Ghana to boost subscription to 740, 000 by the end of February, 2018.
