Martha Bissah, Ghana’s first to win an Olympic gold medal at youth level beat competition from Konama Beatrice and Kombat Hawa to top the 1,500 Women category in the National Circuit Championship held at El- Wak in Accra, Ghana.
Bissah put up a sterling performance to run a time of 4:37.562 to win the race.
The third leg of the Interplast-Sea & Shore National Circuit Championships in Accra, which aims to promote the sport across the country witnessed about 300 participants.
In the men 3,000m category, Goku Prosper from the Customes and Exercise Preventive Service (CEPS), emerged winner with a time of 8:26.316 ahead of Malik Yakubu and Kassim Mohammed whilst Gyimah Dorcas from the Ghana Immigration Service won the 100m Women category with Agbeko Shepherd topping the 200m Men race in 21.304.
In other activities, Acquah Deborah from Western Region emerged winner of the Long Jump Women category whilst Agyemang Joana from the Ghana Police Service defied all odds to place first in the Women Shot Put with Zutah Mary and Abdallah Janet occupying the second and third positions respectively.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Ahmed Mustapha told GNA Sports at the event that “My vision has always being that Ghana is an athletics giants and we need to take steps t always ensure that we maintain that position and an event like this is in the right direction’’.
According to him, the event creates the platform for participants to prepare themselves and improve upon their performance and harness those with hidden talents ahead of the All Africa Games (AAG) in Congo Brazzaville in September.
