Vice-President of Ghana Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur says when given the permission to rebut Dr. Bawumia’s recent public lecture about the economy, he can destroy every sentence the running mate of Akufo-Addo made on the evening of Thursday, September 8, 2016.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur who is also the Vice-presidential candidate of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) said he has a copy of Dr. Bawumia’s speech and has identified lies in every sentence the Economist made at his public lecture, insisting that he will address them one after the other to expose the former deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana when given the go ahead.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at his public lecture held at the National Theatre on the theme “The State of the Ghana Economy – A Foundation of Concrete or Straw” took the governing NDC to the cleaners and noted that President Mahama’s administration has been wasteful despite having more resources than any government ever in the history of Ghana.
He questioned government’s 63% debt to GDP ratio quoted at the end of May this year and also provided data to indicate that the former British Colony is spending more to service interest payments than it spends on infrastructural/capital projects annually.
Dr. Bawumia’s lecture triggered an immediate response from propagandists of the ruling party with Government announcing that counter a public lecture under the theme – “Ghana’s Economy – Separating Truth from Fiction” will be held a week after to debunk claims of the Economist,
The supposed public lecturer was billed to be lectured by the Vice-President, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur but surprisingly, it rained off on the morning of the scheduled date with government assuring the public that a new date would be communicated in the coming weeks.
But Mr. Amissah-Arthur addressing party supporters at the launch of the NDC Manifesto at the Sunyani Coronation Park on Saturday said their silence does not mean they cannot rebut the lies of Dr. Bawumia.
“When I said I was going to respond, one of my former colleagues in Legon called me and said the man is doing politics, he is not doing economics so do not answer him with economics. Go on a political platform and tell him.”
In his view, Dr. Bawumia’s claim about the GDP of the Ghanaian economy was a lie.
According to him, the NPP stalwart has always used figures to confuse his political opponents and made Ghanaians to believe in the lies he tells them but noted that such can never be allowed to be swept under the carpet without being responded to by the NDC.
“We have all seen the roads and the hospitals and the schools that have been built in this country. As an Economist, if you see something and the data does not show it you have to go behind the data and see what has happened,” he noted.
